NONDUMISO NGWENYA

SECRETARY FOR GENDER, DISABILITY, MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES AND SOCIAL WELFARE

Nondumiso Ngwenya, a final year student pursuing her undergraduate degree in Social Work (Honors) at the University of Namibia's Main Campus, is a community development enthusiast, a game changer and an embodiment of excellence as displayed by her work in advocating for the UN's Sustainable, Development Goals, in her works as a youth and student leader and in her voluntary/charitable works.

Nondumiso is an SDG Advocate. She founded, in 2023, and is the chairperson of a society on her university's campus (which has over 11000 registered students) called Dev-Implement ("Development through Implementation") whose aims are to spread awareness on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to guide students to know how to contribute to these SDGs while bringing out how each profession can contribute to certain SDGs. She is the pioneer of this initiative which is the first of its kind in the institution and even country.


She gained experience and was equipped as a youth leader through the Aspire Institute Leaders program of Harvard while gaining the expertise to be a change agent tackling social ills in communities through the African Pathfinders Leaders Initiative's (APLI) 2023 Fellowship Program where she completed the fellowship program with excellence awards of greatest commitment to Community Development as well as the Kickstarter award for beginning a great initiative. Her peers' trust in her leadership abilities led to her election as the Student Representative Council (SRC) of Community Development and Gender Affairs for the year 2024.


Nondumiso is the Project Coordinator and an active volunteer for the Windhoek Rotaract Club, a partner of the Rotary International whose motto, which has become her own guiding motto, is "service above self." She is the National Secretary for Gender, Disability, Marginalized Communities and Social Welfare Affairs at the Namibia National Students Organization (NANSO) that seeks to represent Namibian students and ensure quality and accessible education for all Namibian students. In

addition, she also contributes towards the SDG 4 of quality education through her role as one of the project managers of Transforming Education Systems (TES) in Namibia workshops which take place under UNICEF.


Nondumiso aspires to be involved in project management and policy making and implementation. Above all, she aspires to make a positive impact.
